Overall, I really like the graphics in this game, and the screens don't do it justice. I am getting a solid 60-70+ FPS without the reflections enabled and 40-45 with them on (and everything else maxed/enabled) at 1080p. Note that there is 20-25 FPS slowdown when you get off the boat at the start of the level, but this goes away after you get onto the island and I have not seen any other dips while playing. The gameplay is really enjoyable and challenging enough to keep me interested. I've actually only spent about an hour and a half in game, and am just about finished with the first island. There looks to be quite a bit of content ahead but hard to say how long the game actually is at this point. The only bug I have run into is that you cannot rebind the keys despite the game having the option to do so. Several players have informed the devs and I'm sure it will be fixed in the next patch, so no worries there. The only odd controller binding (I'm using a PS4 controller with DS4 Windows), is the L1 key which is bound to jump. It's actually not so bad as an option, but I am so used to using X for jump that I've died several times by smashing the X button and trying to get out of the way. I'm starting to get used to it, however.Lastly, and I mentioned this to the devs as well, the game does not pause while you are in the inventory. This wouldn't be a big deal if you were just switching gear, but there is a fair bit of crafting in this game which is done in the inventory section. While learning the various crafting recipes, you have to keep the inventory open while moving from item to item, and I've died several times while trying my best to hurry through an explanation of what I need to craft to get a new spell, make a new item, etc. Hopefully this will be changed, but if not, it's more of an annoyance than a gamebreaker as eventually I will learn all of the recipes and it won't be as much of an issue. Hope you enjoy the game, I'm definitely having fun so far.HPS, Death to the thorny poison grass!!!PSS, Very light spoiler: I just figured out that you can use certain items in caves to perform environmental kills on your enemies!! Awesome!!!. grab it on sale, the game can be a lot of fun although it has some issues and I can't really fully recommend it at full price. The environments are mostly very beautiful but the optimization for this game is not great (running it on a asus RoG with windows 10, nvidia GEFORCEGTX 960M, 16gb ram and intel i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz processor), for it to run well without slowing down or stuttering I have play with all the graphics in the lowest setting and it will still heat up my pc a lot more than any other game I own. (it is very pretty looking, though, despite the lowest graphics settings)playing this game is a lot of fun and it's very challenging, you have to be very wary of your surroundings and get used to managing your mana which regenerates quickly but is used for attacking, jumping and hovering. you also have to take into account the day cycle and your hunger, as well as use different types of food for different effects. My biggest issue with the game, aside from optimization, is that completing and island will normally take you a while, at least 15 minutes and at most an hour, I'd say, and you can only save after completing an island. The game is a roguelike but also plays a lot like a sandbox game where you want to explore and extract resources as much as possible to upgrade your spells and max mana, but doing so will take a long time and if you ever need to exit the game you will lose your progress unless you complete whatever quests you have left on an island.recommendations for dev:-add a saving feature accessible within the ship so one can save (maybe when sleeping) without having to finish the island.-maybe add a lower graphics setting to make the game more accessible, using the lowest settings still looked pretty good and heated up my laptop quite a bit.-add more varieties of monsters, being almost 4 hours into the game in the same run, and having beaten the first 6 or so islands, I have seen very few enemies. Even if they don't act too different you could try spicing things up with alternate sprites for the basic skeleton mobs or other enemies.- maaaybe make it so that during a same run you can't get two of the same charms since you can't use a second one anyways..... I know it looks like a Minecraft clone, but let's get past this. It's a rogue-like, or rogue-lite if you are a jerk. Some minor crafting elements combine with smooth controls, loot, lots and lots of stuff to kill and a wild feeling of adventure to make a game that is much more than the sum of it's parts. Good stuff for only 10 bucks.Play session below:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mut9LB1YXq4. Rouge Islands is not what i expect, and a waste of 20 dollars! I thought that it was somthing totally different than what I did in the game. I'd really want a refund, especially for using 20 bucks! I went through all that trouble of trying to scan a steam card for being tricked into a bad, 20 dollar game!. I can't write a review as good as others.. So i'll just share a video I made on it with some editing and a nice bit of content.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le6eJRd-a0g. i know, short playtime, but this game needs some work. there is potential here. keep an eye on this one We Are Transitioning To Full Release!: Guys,It is with great pleasure that I can announce we are transitioning to a full release version of Rogue Islands. An update is being posted today for those of you who are on early access with us.
